I am sitting here with a scary green mask on my face, a Pangea Organics Facial Mask with Acai and Goji Berry. My husband always pretends to be scared when he sees me with this smeared on my face. Actually, I am fibbing a little. I just washed the mask off because if you leave it on too long, you have to work hard and use a lot of water to clean it off to get rid of the swamp monster look. I've never been into putting masks on my face. I used a couple when I was younger but never saw they did any good. However, now I am slightly past forty so I am doing whatever I can to keep my skin in shape. Now I know those masks had nasty chemicals in them that can do insidious damage to your health in the long term. If you do not believe me go to the SkinDeep website done by the Environmental Working Group. It is scary but it does make you aware of how most of the toiletries and cosmetics we use on our bodies are not even tested so no one knows their long term effects. The website gives advice on which chemicals we know we should avoid definitely. Not every product on the market is there but you can register with them and enter products not in the database.
For example, take the Pangea Organics Mask ratings on Skin Deep which I really love. It rates a 3 which places in the middle yellow zone. The most seemingly harmful ingredient is SD alchohol 38B which is rated a 4. The higher the number, the more hazardous the ingredient. This alcohol is definitely not good for you. There are concerns about cancer and developmental/reproductive toxicity among other things. This places me in a quandary. Should I continue to use this product or try to find something safer? I am sure there are much more dangerous products. Pangea Organics is a sincere company trying to make the world a better place and use their business as a way to genuinely help folks around the world. They state on their website they are using part of their profits to build the Pangea Institute which will research and teach all aspects of sustainable living and business practices. However, I really appreciate the SkinDeep website as well. Without this website, I would be clueless to the possible effects of skin care ingredients on my health. For now, I will use the mask, but I will definitely consider what I learned on the SkinDeep website before I purchase this again.

When I first started my search for better beauty products I found out that the alcohol found in most organic/natural products is from the distillation process when extracting essential oils from plants. They use a mixture of water and alcohol which leaves trace amounts behind. Dr. Hauschka's website explains it the best. So now when I see alcohol I don't worry as much.

Thanks for the info. Do you have any favorites of their products? I like the Dr. Hauschka eyeliner but am still looking for a good mascara for my skimpy lashes.

NVEY Eco has a great volumizing mascara. The company has a regular make-up line and an organic make-up line they started a few years ago.
And I love Dr.Hauschka's Toned Day Cream. Everyone thinks I am wearing make-up when I'm not. And when I do want to wear make-up I just throw on some translucent powder over it and I'm set.

Thanks again. The natural mascaras make me feel better about using them but I haven't found a mascara I really like yet. I'll have to check the Nvey Eco out.
